How To... Request Student Exchange E-mail Account

Microsoft Exchange: What is it?

As an alternative to the basic mailbox, UTD also has an Exchange Server, which is Microsoft’s email system. With an Exchange mailbox, you get email, a contacts list, a task list and a calendar.

Reasons to Choose Exchange:

  • Huge mailbox quota limits
  • Easy access anywhere you have an Internet connection
  • Familiar Microsoft interface
  • Share Calendar with other Exchange users
  • Easy access to Student Bulletin Board

Does it work with Galaxy?

Galaxy knows which mailbox you currently have and will open Outlook Web Access (a.k.a. OWA or Webmail) and automatically logs into your mailbox. OWA is also available outside of Galaxy and can be accessed through an Internet browser on Windows, Macintosh and Unix systems.

There are two ways to check your Exchange E-mail account: Check E-mail Using Galaxy or go to https://webmail.utdallas.edu to use Microsoft Exchange 2003 Outlook Web Access.

  1. If you have email forwarding established, you must first discontinue it. For information on how to setup and disable email forwarding, see How To Forward UTD E-mail to Another Address.

  2. Once that is done, you must visit, call, or e-mail the Help Desk and mention that you would like a student Exchange account. See the Helpdesk page for more info on how to contact them directly.
