How To Configure Mozilla Thunderbird with UTD Cyrus or Exchange
The following instructions are for configuring both Exchange webmail.utdallas.edu and Cyrus inbox.utdallas.edu for use on the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client. The screen shots are from the Mac thunderbird client but the settings are the same for the windows version. This can be useful for switching from the Cyrus server to Exchange or vice versa if the Microsoft Outlook client is unavailable to you.
- Select Local Folders, and then click on Create a new account after which the New Account Setup window should be displayed. Select Email account and click Continue.


- In the Identity window type your desired name and your UTD e-mail address then Continue to the next step.

- Under Server Information select IMAP for server type and for Incoming Server the Exchange server is webmail.utdallas.edu, the Cyrus server will be inbox.utdallas.edu. In this case we use the Exchange server name webmail.utdallas.edu. If initially setting up Thunderbird, enter smtp3.utdallas.edu for Outgoing Server.

- On the User Names window Incoming and Outing User Names will be your netid.

- You can choose whatever name you wish for the Account Name.

- On the Congratulations page review your settings for your account and select Done. As previously stated the Incoming Server Name for Exchange is webmail.utdallas.edu and for Cyrus it will be inbox.utdallas.edu. The Outgoing Server Name will be smtp3.utdallas.edu, the steps to edit Outgoing Server information will be elobrated on later in the instcutions. When you have reviewed your settings click on Done.

- Once you are back at the main Thunderbird display page select an account and then select View settings for this account.

- Select Server Settings for your desired account be it Exchange or Cryus. Once again Exchange will be webmail.utdallas.edu while Cryus will be inbox.utdallas.edu. Under the Secuity Settings section select SSL for the Use secure connection option, the Port# should default automaticaly to 993. The other options in the Server Settings section are per your personal perference, advise keeping the default settings.

- Next select Outgoing Server, if smtp3.utdallas.edu is not already here you will Add it. Otherwise if the smtp3 server is listed select Edit. Once again the outgoing server name will be smtp3.utdallas.edu. Under the Secuirty and Authentication section the User Name will be your Net ID. Select SSL for the Use secure connection section the Port# should default to 465, select OK once complete.


- After selecting OK at the Account settings display page you should be returned to the Main Thunderbird display page. After selecting your new account’s inbox you should be prompted for your net id password. After entering your current net id password select OK, your inbox should populate with your mail form your UTD e-mail account.
