Set up wireless printing Windows XP and Vista
**NOTE: This software only works on 32-bit Windows Operating systems, and cannot be installed on 64-bit Windows XP or Vista. The following instructions also require you to be on the UTD computer network. If you are on campus on CometNet2, you can complete the following instructions without modification. If you are off campus you will need to connect to the UT Dallas computer network through the VPN client available at: https://utdvpn.utdallas.edu/. Setting up the Utility
- Locate IRLabsWirelessPrinting_for_XP and Vista and double click on the exe to launch the installer.

- Click the Install button and wait for the installer to complete.
- When finished it will display “Install finished successfully” click the Finish button to continue.
- Goto Start->Control Panel->Printer and Faxes then right click on the selected lab printer <either JO Lab B&W, Sonora Lab B&W, or Sonora Lab Color*> and select Properties.
- In order to configure the Sonora Lab Color printer follow the instructions in the following section “Color printer instructions”
Color printer instructions:
- Click on the Device Settings tab.

- Select “Not Available” from the Tray 1 drag-down box.
- Select “Installed” from the “Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing)” drag-down box.
- Select “256 MB” from the “Printer Memory” drag-down box.
- Click the OK button.
- Continue to the “Printing Instructions” section.
- In order to configure the Sonora Lab or Jonsson Lab B&W printer, follow the instructions in the following section “B&W printer instructions”
B&W printer instructions:
- Click on the Device Settings tab.

- Scroll down to the section labeled “Installable Options”
- Select “500-Sheet Input Tray” from the Tray 3 drag-down box.
- Select “Installed” from the “Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing)” drag-down box.
- Select “320 MB” from the “Printer Memory” drag-down box.
- Click the OK button.
- Continue to the following “Printing Instructions” section.
Printing Instructions:
- When printing the standard pharos popup should pop up asking for your Netid and Netid password.
- In order to ensure that the printing is working correctly; print out a test page.
- The document will now be on the print queue, you can then go to the Sonora or Jonsson computer labs (depending on which lab you printed to) in order to release your print out at the print release stations. Make sure you have money on your Comet Card. The print outs will remain on the queue for twenty four hours; after that they will be deleted so you need to release your documents within a day.
- If an error message pops-up indicating an issue with Port 28203, then follow the directions in the following section labeled “Opening Port 28203,” otherwise, enjoy remote printing!
Opening Port 28203:
- Goto Start->Control Panel->Windows Firewall

- Click on the Exceptions tab
- Click the Add Port button.

- A window labeled Add a Port will pop up. In the Name text-field enter “Pharos Popup”, and in the Port number text-field enter “28203”.
- Make sure to select the TCP radio button, and then click OK.
- In order to ensure that the printing is working correctly; print out a test page.
- Your remote printing should now work.
