Keep your computer from sleeping or hibernating so that it is available to log into using Remote Desktop.
Jump to your platform:
Set Power Options in Windows 7
- Click Start, then Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, change View by: to Large Icons and find Power Options.
- Click on Change when the computer sleeps, then click on Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power Options panel, expand the following sections:
Hard Disk
Change the Turn off hard disk after setting to Never.
Sleep
Change the Sleep after setting to Never.
Change the Hibernate after setting to Never.
- Click Apply and OK
Set Power Options in Windows Vista
- Click Start, then Control Panel.
- Under Classic View, click Power Options.
- Click on Change when the computer sleeps, then click on Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power Options panel, expand the following sections:
Hard Disk
Change the Turn off hard disk after setting to Never.
Sleep
Change the Sleep after setting to Never.
Change the Hibernate after setting to Never.
- Click Apply and OK
Set Power Options in Windows XP
- Click Start, then Control Panel
- In the Control Panel, switch to Classic View and click on Power Options.
- In the Power Options Properties panel, under the Power Schemes tab:
- Change Turn off hard disks to Never
- Change System standby to Never
- Under the Hibernate tab, uncheck Enable hibernation
- Click Apply, then OK.
