Long Distance – Authorization Code

Unless otherwise requested campus telephones have the ability to dial within the local dialing area and emergency 911. The local dialing area includes MOST numbers within the 214, 972 and 469 area codes. Courtesy phones are restricted to dialing on-campus and 911 emergency calls ONLY. All other long distance (national and international) is restricted unless requested and approved by TSR.

Authorization for domestic (national) LD is given in one of two forms based on the user’s departmental policy:

  1. Direct Dial - The user’s phone line is unrestricted, allowing direct dialing of a domestic long distance number.
For more information see the procedure “Long Distance – Direct Dial”.
  2. LD Auth Code - A Long Distance Authorization Code used during the dialing sequence, issued to the user for use on any phone.
International Long Distance ALWAYS requires an Authorization Code.

Authorization codes are assigned to the User, not the desktop phone, and thus may be used on any phone on the UTD Campus (i.e. conference rooms, fax machines, etc.). Users can be given two types of authorization codes:

  1. National LD Authorization Code: Allows the user to dial long distance within the United States only.
  2. International Authorization Code: Allows the user to dial national or international destinations.

All other numbers require authorization to dial LD.

Authorization for domestic (national) LD is given in one of two forms based on the user’s departmental policy:

  1. Direct Dial - The user’s phone line is unrestricted, allowing direct dialing of a domestic long distance number.
