Unsupported Wireless ClientsWindows 95/98/ME and Mac OS X less than 10.3:Users of Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Windows XP. Windows XP provides a much more uniform and robust interface for wireless network connections as well as a built in 802.1x client. In addition to the wireless network enhancements, Microsoft no longer supports these older operating systems, and, as such, they are vulnerable to many security weaknesses not found in newer Microsoft operating systems. Windows XP can be obtained from the UTD bookstore under the UT System Microsoft Licensing Agreement. More information on this can be obtained from their information page. As with Windows 9x users, users of older versions of Mac OS are strongly encouraged to upgrade to the latest release. The latest release of Mac OS X provides the 802.1x functionality built in to the operating system as well as security updates not available in previous versions. If you are unable to upgrade to a newer operating system, you may purchase a commercial 802.1x client from a vendor of 802.1x client software, such as the Aegis client from Meetinghouse Data. UTD will provide the settings necessary to configure these clients for use on the AirUTD network but may be unable to provide direct, hands-on support to these users.
The following are the settings required for configuration of third-party 802.1x clients: ESSID (Network Name): UTDALLAS The server certificate is signed by the RSA Secure Server Certification Authority and is registered to 8021x.utdallas.edu. The username and password should be set to your UTD NetID and password.
