AIRUTD CONNECTION PROCEDURES | Windows VistaStep by Step Instructions: First click the start menu then highlight and select control panel.
Once inside control panel, select “network and Internet”
Once in the “Network and Internet” window select and click the” Network and Sharing Center” link. Once you are in the network and Sharing Center select, and click “Set up a connection or network,” You will find this selection on the left side of the window.
Once in the new window, select “Manually connect to a wireless network” and click next. This will allow you to setup the UTDallas network on your machine.
Once in the setup screen, the Network name will be UTDALLAS. This network name must be exactly as you see in the example. The security type should be changed to 802.1x from the drop down arrow on the right on the box. After you complete the settings, leave the “start this connection automatically” checkbox checked and the “Connect even if the network is not broadcasting” checkbox checked and click next . Click the security tab (second tab on the right) change the authentication method box to Protected EAP (PEAP). Next check the “Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network” checkbox. Next click the settings… button to the right of the network authentication method. This window allows you to make sure your authentication is as secure as possible. In this window, make sure the "Validate server certificate" is checked, then check the "Connect to these servers" option. In the box below that, enter "8021x.utdallas.edu" as shown above. Next, in the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities, scroll down until you see the "Secure Server Certification Authority", and check the box next to that entry. Finally, make sure that the Authentication Method is set to "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)" and that "Enable Fast Reconnect" is unchecked. Once you have these settings click the “configure” button
In this window, simply uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)" option, then click "OK". This tells windows to ask you which user name and password to use when authenticating so that you may enter your UTD NetID and password.
Now Press ok out of the network connections and you will see a small Balloon pop up from the taskbar in the bottom right. When this balloon appears, click the balloon which will provide a box that will allow you to put in your username and password.
Enter your UTD NetID in the "User name" field, your UTD password in the "Password" field, and leave the "Logon domain" field blank. Click on "OK", and Windows will log you into the new AirUTD network.
If you have logged in with the correct username and password and have left your Network Connections window open, you will see a window pop up with the message “connecting to UTDALLAS”
After a moment another window will appear with the message “successfully connected to UTDALLAS”
