Network Services
The UTDGuest wireless network is intended for the use of guests at the UTD for web based applications to off site locations.
It is an open and unencrypted network. It does not require a UTD NetID and password to use. It is currently limited to only web based applications. No UTD resources are available other than www.utdallas.edu. (links on www.utdallas.edu may refer to other UTD web servers that are not available by this network) Screen shots can be viewed here. If access to UTD resources is required, two different types of guest ID's are available. Full time staff and faculty members may register guest wireless ID's for their visitors. These ID's are valid up to 7 days and are used to log into the CometNet2 wireless network. This allows full wireless network access but not login access to computing and other resources. Guest wireless ID's may be requested here. If guests (Affiliates, Contractors, Guests, Visiting Scholars, etc.) are longer term or need to use campus resources such as email, computer labs, etc., they will need a full access guest NetID. Information for requesting a full guest NetID can be found here. If you have not been forwarded to the map after 5 seconds, click here.
The UTD VPN will allow you to access the UTD network from off campus. Instructions for connecting to the UTD network can be found here.
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a protocol for distributing the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for synchronizing the clocks of computer systems.
The University of Texas at Dallas provides stratum 2 NTP time services which are synced by a local stratum 1 time source. Simply set your NTP setting to look for the host time.utdallas.edu or ntp.utdallas.edu. If a device supports it and gets it's network settings via DHCP, DHCP will automatically supply that client with the NTP server information. | |||
