Program Management OfficeThe Program Management Office (PMO) was reinstated in FY12 with the addition of a Director of Program Management in the Information Resources Department (IR). The Program Management Office is a staff function primarily internal to Information Resources although on occasion may participate outside of that scope as directed by the CIO. In general, the PMO has responsibility for promoting and mentoring a project management culture, ensuring budgetary controls and focusing on customer needs presented to the IR Department. These responsibilities are accomplished through communication between technical and non-technical users and collaboration with other IR Directors. IR Budget Control: The PMO in cooperation with IR Directors will maintain an oversight role relating to the finances of the IR Department and advise the CIO accordingly. This responsibility includes both forecasting - budget preparation and routine cost control measures throughout the year. IR Projects: IR projects are those initiated from within IR where the project lifecycle is within IR’s responsibility. The PMO through appropriate project management methodologies will be directly involved in the project life cycle of IR projects insuring priority with organizational goals, quality and performance standards, project scope, resource requirements, reporting on project status and supporting the shared services model of UT System. Projects Outside of IR: Projects requiring technology resources are frequently initiated outside of IR through various environmental demands, opportunities or collaborations. IR’s role with projects of this nature is one of resource where the management of the project life cycle is external to IR. The PMO will serve as the primary IR point of contact for projects of this nature connecting stakeholders with appropriate IR resources to facilitate successful completion of projects.
