Digital Certificates: How to backup or move your Digital IDs to a new machine using Internet Explorer

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on Tools
3. Click on Internet Options
4. Click on the Content tab
   
   
   
   
5. Click on the Certificates button
6. Highlight the certificate that you want to export
1. Click on the Export button
   
   
   
   
2. Welcome to the certificate Export Wizard, click Next
   
   
   
   
3. Choose Yes, export the private key, click Next
   
   
   
   
4. Make sure the Person Information Exchange button is selected and that the first 2 boxes are checked.  Do not check the 3rd box.  Click Next.  You will have to give the file a password.  Do not forget the password.  Click Next.
   
   
   
   
7. Specify the drive and the name of the file to which you want to export the key file.  Click on Next.
   
   
   
   
8. Click Finish

To place the Digital ID on the new computer

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on Tools
3. Click on Internet Options
4. Click on the Content
5. Click on the Certificates button
6. Click on the Import button
   
   



7. Click Next
   
   
   
   
8. Enter the address where the Digital ID is located.
   
   
   
   
9. Enter the password you used to save the Digital ID.
   
   
   
   
10. Allow Windows to select the certificate store.
    
    
    
    
11. Click Finish to complete the installation of the Digital ID.
    
    
    
    
12. You will get the message that the import was successful and the certificate will show in the certificate list.
