“The University of Texas at Dallas has been a wonderful place for me to grow.
I chose UT Dallas for a number of reasons. The tuition is a good value, especially compared to area private universities. The school is close to my home, which gives me the opportunity to spend time with my family. UT Dallas also offered the teaching program I wanted, through the Teacher Development Center and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
By far the best thing about UT Dallas is the people. The atmosphere is really laid back and friendly, but the professors, advisors and other staff are focused on your success.
Joining the Jumpstart volunteer program has been a great experience because it’s made me feel a part of the University. I’ve also met some of my best friends through the program. Jumpstart brings college students and community volunteers together with preschool children in low-income communities for a full school year of individualized mentoring and tutoring.
The best advice I could give to freshmen would be to join at least one extracurricular program. It’s a good way to meet people with the same interests, and it also gives you a sense of connection with the University. Also, never forget that college not only prepares you for your future career, but also for entering society.”
A graduate of Skyline High School, Marisol Espinoza is an interdisciplinary studies major who came to UT Dallas after earning her associate’s degree from Mountain View Community College. Marisol hopes to use her bachelor’s degree and Jumpstart volunteer experience to become an elementary school teacher.
