General Information |
Welcome to UTD and to the School of Interdisciplinary Studies . We hope that you will soon feel at home in the University and that the resources available in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies will help you in your academic life. The School offers five degree programs: the Bachelor of Arts in American Studies; the Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies (no longer awarded after summer 2013); the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies; the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies; and the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. You have chosen one of the Interdisciplinary Studies degrees because they allow you a broader learning experience and a wider perspective than provided by more traditional undergraduate majors. Because of their individualized focus and flexibility, they are appropriate both for students preparing to enter the workplace and for those who plan to continue their studies in graduate or professional school. Most of all, they serve those students who seek a thorough grounding in the arts and sciences, and business issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. Each student in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies is an active partner in the formulation of his or her program of study. Together with an academic advisor, you will devise an individual degree plan by drawing on all the resources of the University. To help you in your degree planning, we have put together this handbook which lays out policies and procedures concerning the program. We hope that you will find it useful. The School of Interdisciplinary Studies is located in Hobitzelle Hall, Suite 2.104. There is a lobby inside this suite for our students to relax and study in a quiety environmnet. The main lobby in Hobitzele Hall provides additional seating for all students. Our School maintains a computer lab in 2.706 for our students' use and/or UT-Dallas computer training courses. Hobitzelle Hall is also home to the Teacher Development Center, located in Suite 2.900. Interdisciplinary Studies students who are interested in adding teacher certification to their degree plan must meet with the Teacher Development Center for certification advising and their Interdisciplinary Studies advisor for academic advising. |
