J-1 Reporting Requirements
The U.S. Department of State (DOS) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) require J-1 students to maintain their J-1 records through a number of reporting procedures throughout the course of their visa status. In most cases a J-1 visitor can meet these requirements by reporting any changes to the International Student Services Office (ISSO).
Upon Arrival to the Campus
- Attend international student orientation. This is a requirement of your J status and necessary before registration holds can be removed.
- Log into Galaxy and update your new address on orientation day. The ISSO will notify DOS and DHS.
While an Enrolled Student and/or on Academic Training
- Report any changes to address through the UT Dallas Galaxy portal. This must happen within 10 days of each change. The ISSO will notify DOS and DHS.
- Change in passport name - You must notify the ISSO within 10 days of the change. The ISSO will notify DOS and DHS.
- Change in visa type or immigrant status - You must notify the ISSO within 10 days of the change.
- Change of dependent’s official name, address, visa status or permanent departure from U.S. - You must notify the ISSO within 10 days of the change. The ISSO will notify DOS and DHS.
- Permanent departure from U.S. - You must notify the ISSO within 10 days of the change. The ISSO will notify DOS and DHS.
Report changes to your educational level at UT Dallas by obtaining a new DS-2019. After your admission to the new level, submit the appropriate financial documents to the ISSO. If you are unsure what to submit, contact an international student advisor.
