Connecting
from Off-Campus |
Note: The system will block access to electronic library resources from off-campus if you have overdue books or a fine of $1.00 or more. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for access to be restored once the fine is paid. |
How do I get my UTD-ID number? If you have a problem and do not have a fine, check the troubleshooting list below. For immediate assistance, call 972-883-2955. |
Off campus or remote access to McDermott Library's electronic resources is limited to currently enrolled UTD students and current UTD employees. You may not be able to connect to an electronic journal, eBook, or remote database because:1.Your UTD-ID or name was typed incorrectly. SOLUTION : Enter the UTD-ID number that can be found by logging on to http://netid.utdallas.edu, enter your last name, and click the Submit Query button. 2. You are not currently enrolled at UTD. SOLUTION: You need to register for a class in order to access these materials from home. 3. You are not on the UTD campus, and this title is one that is only available to users on campus. SOLUTION: Please come to the library to access this resource. 4. The maximum number of users from UTD who can search this resource at one time has been reached. SOLUTION: Please wait a few minutes and try again. 5. You receive a prompt asking for a user ID or authorization and password when you try to access a title. SOLUTION: You may have bookmarked the web site or entered its URL rather than entering via the library's description/linking page. Some resources require authentication provided via the library web pages, so try looking up the title in the catalog or on the library's Resources web page and following the links from there. 6. You may be refusing the cookies used to identify you as a valid user. Your browser must be enabled to accept cookies for the connection to the desired resource to occur. When you enter your UTD-ID Number to identify yourself as a valid UTD student or employee, you are sent a cookie (data that your browser stores and will return to the server when it requests it). This allows you to be identified when you request more web pages from the database, without having to reenter your UTD-ID Number each time. SOLUTION: Be sure your
browser supports cookies and is enabled to accept them. 7. Your browser may not run JavaScript. JavaScript is used by many of the electronic resources the library subscribes to, and if your browser is not set to run JavaScripts, you may not be able to access them. SOLUTION: Be sure your browser supports JavaScript and that you have it configured to allow it to be used. 8. If the date is set incorrectly on your computer, you may not be able to connect to some web sites. SOLUTION: Set the date on your computer correctly. Check the documentation that came with your computer for instructions. 9. You are getting the following message after entering login and id info: " 400 Bad Request. The HTTP request that was submitted is invalid or malformed." SOLUTION: Some ISP acceleration software is known to cause this type of behavior (specifically NetZero's HiSpeed software and Road Runner ISP high-speed DSL service). You may want to contact your ISP and tell them to take you off their ISP's restricted access list. Alternatively, you can also contact us with the information below. 10. Running VPN on your PC can cause it not to gain access to proxied materials. SOLUTION: Turn off VPN before logging into the library's proxy server. If none of the directions work, let us know.
