Mergent Online provides full-text U.S. and international company financial data, as well as U.S. and international company annual reports. Current industry reports and country profiles are also available. Mergent is updated weekly.
To access this and other online resources start at the library’s web page www.utdallas.edu/library. Click on the big orange button “Find Articles & Databases” in the upper right screen. Click on M and select Mergent Online from the list. Remember that from off campus you will be prompted to enter your NetID and password.
In this database the name of the company or industry must be known.
Click on “Enter Mergent Online” to begin searching. The search screen defaults to a basic search but an advanced search can be chosen from the green tabs across the top of the page. Also an EDGAR, equity, or industry search may be chosen. The executive search is an excellent source of brief biographies, executive compensation and more specific details about top employees of corporations.
To search for a company, type the ticker symbol or company name into the Identifier box and click search. The result list will show companies that matches the ticker or name. Mouse over the (?) to show the SIC industry. Click on the company name to see the results.
The left column has a snapshot of information. The right side gives more in-depth details. Select reports from the dark green and light green bars across the top of the screen. There are at least ten years of annual reports. There are 15 years of company financials and the reports can be by quarters or annuals. TearSheets, equity reports and industry reports are also available. Contact the SOM library liaisons for additional assistance in using this or any other database.
