Eugene McDermott Library Encourages All Researchers to Register for an ORCID iD to Increase Their Visibility

The Eugene McDermott Library is leading the charge to help all research-active UT Dallas faculty and graduate students obtain an ORCID iD.

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a unique 16-digit number that distinguishes researchers from others with the same or similar name or characteristics and eases the process of manuscript submission, grant applications and other academic activities. Many major publishers, funders and academic institutions have already adopted ORCID and may be requiring its use in the near future.

Having an ORCID iD:

• Makes researchers’ work discoverable by others
• Connects researchers’ work to them throughout their career, no matter how their name appears in publication
• Distinguishes researchers from other researchers with similar names
• Minimizes the time researchers spend filling out forms when submitting research or applying for grants
• Provides a useful tool for universities to track, evaluate and report research work
