African Americans in Film

Elevator Anteroom Left-Center Cases – 2nd floor
February celebrates Black History Month. In observance of the month the Library has assembled a display featuring books and DVDs on African Americans in cinema. Although there are thousands of titles to choose from, this display includes a representation of this particular genre as well as those films and actors who have won an Academy Award, also known as the Oscar. The books and DVDs selected span the range of early cinema, the era of Blaxplotation up to recent years. The evolution of black cinema has changed over time; this display shows examples of that change.

The History of Medicine

Elevator Anteroom Right Case – 2nd Floor
"Always help, or at least do no harm." Following this simple yet revolutionary idea, Hippocrates laid the foundation for modern medicine more than two millennia ago. The "History of Medicine" display highlights titles from the collection that describe the history of medicine from Hippocrates to the human genome. See how mankind has dealt with plagues, cholera, polio and other diseases. Discover how well we have, or have not, followed Hippocrates’ admonition.
