The McDermott Library Friends (MLF) is
a group of community members, UTD faculty, students,
staff, alumni, and others who support the Eugene C.
McDermott Library. Its goals are to enrich the intellectual
and cultural environment for faculty, students, staff,
and community by promoting excellence in library collections
and services, attracting distinguished special collections,
and sponsoring special events. The Friends group is
an advocacy organization that elevates public awareness
of and raises funds for the UTD Libraries. Basic membership
is provided for contributions of $25 per year (does
not include a library card). Those contributing $100
per year receive a VIP library card. For additional
information contact Library Friends, or call 972-883-2587. |

Friends contributing $100 a year or more
receive a Friends VIP library card (must be 18 years or
older).
The VIP Card Walk-In Contributors at McDermott Library must present the form with contribution in the Library Administration Office. Contributors of $100 or more qualify for a VIP Card that provides access to some library services. VIP Friends are able to check out five books at a time and use the library’s databases. There is a Community Computer in the Information Commons near the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor designated for use by the Friends and the public. The card does not include laptop checkout, Internet access, remote computer access, interlibrary loan and TexShare privileges. Patrons can save information to a compact disc, e-mail data to their personal account, use a printer for a fee or manually record information. Newly added to the service area is a library print card that can be purchased to use a printer for hard copies. Once the VIP Card is processed (usually in 48 hours) new Friends are notified by email or telephone. Friends should pick up their welcome packet and card at the McDermott Library Circulation Desk. Friends must show a photo ID for proof of age upon receiving and using the card at the Circulation Desk. The card is non-transferable. The check out period for general circulation materials is 21 days and the book limit is five items. Late fees and replacement costs apply to all library borrowers. The fee for replacing a lost card is $5. Our gift program invites individuals, organizations, and businesses to participate in the development and expansion of library services and collections. The program includes ways to donate materials, use the facility, create an endowment, or honor a friend and/or collegue. Please check our Supporting The Libraries of the University of Texas at Dallas page for more information.
