The McDermott Award

McDermott Scholars are selected on their promise of being leaders for Dallas, the United States, and the world community during the 21st century.

The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program was established by Mrs. Eugene McDermott in support of her husband's dream of a great university for the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and his conviction about the vital importance of highly educated minds.

McDermott Scholars are selected on their promise of being leaders for Dallas, the United States, and the world community during the 21st century. This promise is demonstrated by records of high intellectual achievement, along with evidence of leadership skills, high ethics, and a commitment to full participation in the Program, with all of its privileges and responsibilities.

The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program provides these select students with UTD's traditional, rigorous, and personalized classroom and laboratory education, along with a four-year program of intensive extracurricular activities designed to equip them with the experience and confidence to succeed as leaders in all important dimensions of society.
