The Scholar
The 2008 McDermott class of ten women and ten men, includes three valedictorians and one salutatorian. The students collectively graduated in the top 2.3 percent of their high school class. Three achieved a perfect score on the SAT or the ACT; the group averaged 2240 on the SAT overall.
McDermott Scholars show the promise of being tomorrow's leaders. They are students whose intellect, ambition and leadership set them apart as individuals.
They are expected to be a strong influence on their university and their society.
They bring with them long histories of academic excellence and active engagement with their schools and communities.
They exemplify the characteristics of leadership, scholarship and citizenship: these are the hallmarks of an educated person.
