Recruitment and Application Calendar

This is the first year that the McDermott Scholars application process has an priority and regular deadline.  Be sure to read below for the important dates.

August 2008

 

Fall 2008

  • The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program Staff will recruit and visit high schools.
  • Applicants will fill out the online application and request the required letters of recommendation.  

 

October/November 2008

  • The Eugene McDermott Scholars Program Staff will host high school counselors on campus for Counselors' Workshops. Contact Kristen Blakely if you would like to attend.

 

November 15, 2008 - Priority and Preferred Deadline    

  • Students should submit their completed online application, letters of recommendation, and application for admission to UTD.
  • UTD's McDermott Scholars Selection Committee reviews 'Priority Deadline' applications and selects applicants for personal interviews at Finalists' Weekend.
  • The priority deadline will ensure notification concerning Finalists' Weekend by December 15th.
  • Eligible applicants not accepted to the Finalists' Weekend will be reviewed for the UTD Academic Excellence Scholarships commensurate with their records of academic achievement.

 

January 1, 2009 - Regular Deadline

  • Students should submit their completed online application, letters of recommendation, and application for admission to UTD.
  • UTD's McDermott Scholars Selection Committee reviews 'Regular Deadline' applications and selects applicants for personal interviews at Finalists' Weekend.
  • The regular deadline will ensure notification concerning Finalists' Weekend by January 16th.
  • Eligible applicants not accepted to the Finalists' Weekend will be offered UTD Academic Excellence Scholarships commensurate with their records of academic achievement.

 

February 6-8, 2009 - Finalists' Weekend

 

February - April 2009

  • The McDermott Scholars Program Director begins contacting finalists to make offers to join the McDermott Scholars Program.
  • Announce the class of scholars that will begin at UTD in fall 2009.

 

June 2009

  • Once selected to be a McDermott Scholar, students may elect to participate in a summer program to conduct research with faculty mentors in a variety of disciplines (beginning the 48-month program).

 

August 2009

  • First-year McDermott Scholars gather for an orientation and leadership institute prior to fall registration and the first day of classes (beginning the 46-month program).

 

August 2009 - May 2010

  • First-year McDermott Scholars will participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including university-sponsored activities such as chess team, debate, intramural or intercollegiate athletics, student government, and publications; travel to local and national galleries, symphonies, and institutes; independent or mentored research; and various symposia and social events.
  • McDermott Scholars will earn a minimum of 30 credit hours during their first year, as well as maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher each semester, subject to higher levels in later years.
