UTD Hispanic Programs and Events

Hispanic Heritage Month is the time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the diverse cultural landscape of the U.S. It is a time of the year to highlight the cultural traditions of the Hispanic community. September 15th to ctober 15th was chosen as the dates for the celebration because of the independence day of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, E lSalvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
