Fire at Student Apartments Halted Without Injuries
Campus Residents Urged to Contact Families to Let Them Know They Are Safe
A four-alarm fire broke out Friday in Building 12 of the Waterview Park Apartments on the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas. No one was injured in the fire, but several students have been displaced.
All UT Dallas students who live on campus are urged to call their families and let them know their situations.
A UT Dallas police officer spotted the fire around 3:50 p.m. He activated the alarm system in the hallway and went door to door alerting students. The Richardson Fire Department responded and is still investigating the fire's origins.
At least four and as many as eight units were damaged. Evaluation of the damage will continue. Most of the damage is believed to be in the attic of the three-story apartment building, located at 2400 Waterview Parkway.
Students who live in these apartments are asked to call the Waterview Park management office at (972) 454-5000 to inquire about temporary housing or to get more information. The Waterview Park staff is working with the University’s Office of Housing Operations to relocate students affected by the fire. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
