School of Management Picks Director of Development
May 9, 2008
Kyle Edgington has been named the new director of development for The University of Texas at Dallas School of Management. His responsibilities include creating, implementing and coordinating a comprehensive fundraising program for the school.
Edgington comes to UT Dallas from Texas Tech University – his alma mater – where he was initially a major gifts officer and later became the director of development for the College of Engineering. During his time at Texas Tech, Edgington successfully organized and launched a $20 million campaign for the college’s department of petroleum engineering.
“I am delighted to be joining the School of Management at such an exciting time,” said Edgington. “It is a vibrant and thriving business school, and the dean has done a wonderful job with the endowment resources available to him. I look forward to building on the school’s successful programs and cultivating a long and rewarding partnership with the school, its alumni and corporate and individual donors.”
Edgington spent the first six years of his career in the information technology field working at Cingular Wireless. However, his uncle, John Montford – a former Texas Tech chancellor and Texas state senator – inspired Edgington to change careers and explore the field of university development.
“I really do believe in higher education and that everyone should be able to attend college. I saw my uncle’s work and the way he transformed Tech, which set a standard of excellence there, and that had a powerful impact on me and my decision to pursue this profession,” Edgington added.
Under the direction of School of Management Dean Hasan Pirkul and the vice president of development at UT Dallas, Edgington will manage major and principle gift fundraising efforts to support the school by identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective donors.
Edgington received a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Tech and an MBA from Wayland Baptist University.
