UT Dallas Confucius Institute Coordinates Aid to Quake Victims

May 19, 2008

The Confucius Institute at UT Dallas has joined relief efforts for victims of the earthquake that devastated southwestern China’s Sichuan Province.

The institute is accepting checks from any individuals and businesses who want to support the relief effort.

“Given the colossal scale of the disaster, we believe that every effort, every penny, counts,” says Ming Dong Gu, director of the institute, part of the School of Arts and Humanities at UT Dallas.

The quake’s death toll is estimated at 20,000, with many more victims still counted as missing or injured. Many were young children in school during the quake.

Donations will be sent to the Red Cross Society of China on an ongoing basis. Donations are tax-deductible, with receipts available upon request.

Checks can be written to the “2008 China Earthquake Relief Fund” and sent to The Confucius Institute School of Arts and Humanities, JO 31, 800 W. Campbell Road, Richardson, TX 75080.

Direct deposit is also available at Chase Bank N.A., at 1700 Coit Road, Plano, TX 75075.  Donors with questions can call (972) 596-7483 and ask for Yvon Wang.

Alternately, donations can also be made online at http://www.2008ChinaEarthquakeReliefFund.org.
