Junior Makes District All-America Team in Soccer
Nov. 3, 2008
Junior Emily George of the UT Dallas women’s soccer team has been elected as a first-team member of the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America)/ESPN The Magazine District 6 Academic All-America team.
As a first-team selection on the All-District team, George’s name will be placed on the ballot for the national Academic All-America team, which will be voted on by CoSIDA members later this fall.
“I wanted to be part of a winning program, but I didn't come to UTD just to play soccer,” said George, a junior from Lubbock, Texas. “I knew the school had a strong academic reputation as well, and that my degree would mean something when I graduated.”
George has started all 15 games for the Comets this season and has two goals and two assists in 2008. She has been a key player both offensively and defensively for her team for three years, playing aggressive defense on a team that has surrendered just 33 goals and recorded 37 shutouts over the 55 games she has played in during her career.
George earned third-team All-Conference honors as a sophomore, scoring three goals with a team-high eight assists. She has been a two-time American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference and was honored as a UTD Distinguished Scholar Athlete earlier this fall.
