Expert on Risk Analysis Unveils New Journal
Nov. 13, 2008
Risk and decision analysis—a timely topic in the unfolding meltdown of world financial markets—is the focus of a new quarterly journal co-edited by a UT Dallas School of Management professor and published for the first time this month.
Co-editor Alain Bensoussan says Risk and Decision Analysis looks at risk in various venues, including industrial operations and services management, finance, insurance, energy, safety and security, health care and the environment.
Bensoussan is Distinguished Research Professor in the School of Management and director of the school’s International Center for Decision and Risk Analysis. He shares editing duties with Charles Tapiero, the Topfer Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Finance and Risk Engineering at New York University-Polytechnic Institute.
The journal’s editors plan to emphasize synergies between disciplines and new concepts and methods, while bridging risk analysis theory and practice.
“The field of risk analysis has grown rapidly in the past decade,” Bensoussan says. “Most industries and organizations now see risk analysis as vital to not only their success but their very survival in this era of globalization.”
He says the journal hopes promote the relatively new field of risk analysis and develop methods for that analysis that can be used by corporations, governments and other organizations where ascertaining risk is important.
“Being able to identify the likelihood of risk is important not only to determine one’s vulnerability but also to develop countermeasures that can diminish that risk,” Bensoussan says.
The academic peer-reviewed journal accepts submissions on all areas of risk as well as related areas such as risk-based techniques; statistics, Bayesian statistics and learning, stochastic modeling and stochastic and optimal control.
Risk and Decision Analysis is published by IOS Press, based in Amsterdam and also can be found online.
