Homecoming to Journey ‘Through the Decades’

Jan. 30, 2009

Even without a football team or the traditional big game, the Comets plan to put on a homecoming spectacular to honor alumni new and old, and celebrate current students.  The university’s 2009 “Through the Decades” homecoming, set for Feb. 2-7, is especially fitting as the University turns 40 this year.

Activities begin Monday and will include, among other attractions, a pajama day, a T-shirt exchange, a health and fitness expo dubbed “I love UT Dallas,” a pep rally and spirit show, a powder puff football game, a door decorating contest for faculty and staff, and a special alumni-only night to watch the Dallas Mavericks play at the American Airlines Center.

“I’ve been homecoming chair for two years and involved with the committee for three, and I have to say that I never get tired of this event,” said Grace Huang, a senior business administration major.  “It’s an exciting time that showcases our school pride, and I love participating.”

This year’s homecoming court is made of eight women and seven men, and voting for king and queen will take place all week in the Comet Café.

Other highlights during the weeklong celebration include:
