Health Occupation Students Excel in State Events

The UT Dallas division of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) sent 27 students to the 2009 Spring State Leadership Conference in McAllen and returned with a wide array of first-, second- and third-place prizes in competitions.

At the conference, students from all over Texas who are interested in pursuing health-care careers compete in various categories such as Creative Problem Solving, Medical Spelling, Medical Terminology, Pharmacology, Human Growth and Development, Medical Reading and Nursing Assisting.

Of the 27 students attending the conference, there were 12 first-place winners, 10 second-place winners and two third-place winners. The students’ performance is a continuation of the HOSA’s award-winning performance at competitions over the last three years.

Following are the UT Dallas students who placed in the competition:

Creative Problem Solving:

Medical Math:

Medical Spelling:

2nd Place: Ofek Levy

Medical Terminology:
2nd Place: Theresa Vo

Pharmacology:
1st Place: Mishelle Kochumuttom
2nd Place: Maya Robinson

 

Pathophysiology:
2nd Place: Sandy Liao
3rd Place: Anna Beheshti

Human Growth and Development:
2nd Place: Tharun Paruchuri

Researched Persuasive Speaking:
1st Place: Sara Mahmood

Extemporaneous Writing:
1st Place: Kourosh Zakeri

Job Seeking Skills:
1st Place: Shehznan Baqui

Medical Reading:
