Regents’ Resolution Calls for Tier One Consideration
UT System Board Urges Legislature to Establish More National Research Schools
May 15, 2009
The UT System Board of Regents unanimously adopted a resolution Thursday urging the Legislature to establish more national research universities in the state of Texas.
The resolution, which passed unanimously, applauds the work done by the Texas Legislature to date to advance the creation of a Tier One institution from among Texas’ seven emerging research universities, which includes UT Dallas.
The regents called for establishment of one or more national research universities through state assistance in the form of matching funds for philanthropy and research and a fund to sustain these new national research universities as they meet certain criteria established by the Legislature.
The resolution addressed other higher-education issues, including admissions requirements and tuition-setting authority.
