The postseason starts for the UT Dallas baseball team on Friday when the Comets host Texas Lutheran University in the first round of the 2011 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.

UT Dallas and Texas Lutheran will play a best-of-three series for a berth in the annual ASC Championship Tournament, set for May 6-8.

The first game of the series is set for 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the UT Dallas Baseball Field with Game 2 scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The “if necessary” third game will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday’s game.

The Comets are hosting a postseason game for the first time since 2007. The team claimed the No. 2 seed out of the ASC’s East Division after a thrilling series against Louisiana College.

The Comets are 16-15 all-time in their previous seven trips to the ASC Tournament, advancing to the semifinals on five prior occasions. UT Dallas advanced to the title game in 2003, 2004 and 2006, but has never won a conference championship.

The Comets have faced the Bulldogs in eight previous tournament games with a 3-5 record, including a pair of losses in the 2010 opening round in Seguin.

Tickets are all general admission and are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children 6 and under will be admitted free.
