The Comets will head back to the ballpark for a shot at the national baseball playoffs this weekend when UT Dallas hosts the American Southwest Conference championships.

UT Dallas earned the right to host the conference “Final Four” after winning the playoffs’ first round on Saturday. The Comets will host the three other first-round winners in a three-day, double-elimination tournament.

The championship games will begin Friday at 11 a.m. and continue through Sunday at the UT Dallas Baseball Field. The other universities in the tournament are McMurry, Hardin-Simmons and Concordia-Texas.

The tournament winner will receive the ASC’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

The Comets are 27-16 for the season after Saturday’s 4-1 and 3-1 wins over Texas Lutheran.

This marks the second time in program history that UT Dallas has hosted the league’s Championship Round. The Comets also hosted the final round in 2007, placing third. The tournament expanded from one site to a championship series (first round, championship round) in 2005.

Tickets are all general admission and are $7 for adults and $3 for students.
