Basketball Coaches Name UT Dallas Junior to All-America Team
Mar. 28, 2013
Kyle Schleigh is the eighth All-American at UT Dallas.
UT Dallas junior forward Kyle Schleigh has become the third Comet men's basketball player to claim All-America honors after being named NCAA Division III Third Team All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Schleigh, a native of Houston, joins former Comets Scott Rodgers (2010) and Chris Barnes (2011), who were both Second Team All-American selections by the NABC.
Schleigh becomes the eighth UT Dallas student-athlete to collect All-America honors. In addition to the trio of men's basketball players, other UT Dallas All-Americans include former men's soccer player Trent Abbott (first team, 2002), former men's golfers Scott Maurer (first team, 2004) and Peyton Cook (second team, 2004), former volleyball player Niki Calverly (first team, 2010) and former baseball player Brett Rosen (second team, 2007).
Schleigh, who attended Kingwood High School, posted one of the best seasons in program history as a junior, averaging 21.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. He was named both the American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and was chosen to the prestigious All-ASC squad for the second straight season. The seven-time ASC East Player of the Week was a 52.3 percent shooter from the floor this season, hitting 33.9 percent from three-point range, and was an 80-percent shooter from the foul line. He averaged 3.1 assists, 2.2 steals and 0.9 blocked shots per game.
To be eligible for All-America status, Schleigh was named first team all-district. He was also chosen as first team All-South Region by D3hoops.com. The D3hoops.com All-America teams are expected later this month.
The Comets posted a 20-7 mark and won the ASC East Division for the fifth straight season. UT Dallas advanced to the ASC Tournament for the 10th consecutive year.
