Welcome Week Provides Texas Fun for Campus
Aug. 23, 2013
Whether you’re an incoming freshman, a new transfer student or a returning Comet, Welcome Week 2013 will give you a taste of what UT Dallas is all about.
Student groups and campus departments have planned enough creative activities to fill two weeks this year. Highlights include the Cometville Carnival on the Mall, Rec ‘n’ Wild water games at the softball fields, a talent contest and a 1920s-themed Dive-In Movie at an on-campus pool.
“Welcome Week will have something for everyone,” said Kecia Baker, assistant dean of students. “Students can enjoy music, sports or just sample different kinds of food. The activities are varied enough for everyone to get involved and to feel welcomed.”
The week will begin with the formal University Convocation on Sunday, Aug. 25, a ceremonial event for incoming students that marks the start of their academic careers at UT Dallas.
A more festive social celebration then takes over, with music, games, dancing and plenty of food and snacks.
Highlights include Kevin Sandbloom and Hundred Waters performing in concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the University Theatre. Students will find their Lone Star bearings at the annual Texas Party, featuring a live band, bull riding, midway games and line dancing. The popular event will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 in the Student Union. For details about activities from Aug. 25 through Sept. 7, visit the Welcome Week website.
