Post-Spring Break Party Filled with Comedy, Concerts and Costumes

UT Dallas Springapalooza Splatter Dance

Splatter Dance will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 17 in the Residence Hall West Field. Four paint cannons will spray dancers every 15 minutes as a DJ keeps the music going throughout the evening.

Students returning from spring break will find the festivities continuing with a concert, comedy show and a Comet-CON fair.

Springapalooza, set for March 17-21, is an annual post-spring break celebration put on by the Student Union and Activities Advisory Board (SUAAB).

The week’s activities help students ease back into classes with some daily fun, said Jonathan “GNO” White, SUAAB adviser and assistant director of student life programs.

“Springapalooza gives students some stress-relieving activities as they enter the final stretch of spring semester,” White said. “This is SUAAB’s way of extending the spring break-like fun and interaction. It’s time for the spring break after-party!”

The day-long Comet-CON on Friday, March 21 is a new addition to Springapalooza. It will include screenings of Pokémon movies and the television show Big Bang Theory, as well as a Hunger Games double feature; a vintage video arcade room; custom T-shirt art by students; gaming and superhero costume contests; and an appearance by Veronica Taylor, who provided the voice of Ash Ketchum in the English adaption of Pokémon.

Arts and Humanities faculty lectures that day will address the science and values in the work of Wonder Woman creator William Marston, Godzilla’s persistence in popular culture, and the work of Japanese anime film icon Hayao Miyazaki.

Another popular Springapalooza event is Splatter Dance — an outdoor, paint-filled dance party Monday, March 17 on the Residence Hall West Field. Four paint cannons will spray dancers every 15 minutes as a DJ keeps the music going throughout the evening.

A concert Tuesday, March 18 will feature soul musician Allen Stone and Bad Rabbits, a multicultural five-piece band from Boston that plays rock and futuristic rhythm and blues.

Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and local comedian Paul Varghese will perform at Big Bad Comedy Show Thursday, March 20.
