Outstanding Student Employees Honored
April 15, 2014
Amanda Pereira, a senior business administration and biology major who works as a tutor in the Naveen Jindal School of Management Business Communication Center, was selected as UT Dallas' Student Employee of the Year.
Six student workers at UT Dallas have been recognized by their supervisors for their professionalism, work ethic and performance as part of National Student Employment Week.
The week, held each year in April, recognizes exceptional student workers on campus.
UT Dallas presented its Student Employee of the Year Award to Amanda Pereira, a senior business administration and biology major who works as a tutor in the Naveen Jindal School of Management Business Communication Center.
“Applying knowledge from her dual degree, Amanda understands the diverse assignments our students are required to complete,” her nomination letter stated. “She has continued to expand knowledge and skills as required to meet our students’ ever increasing needs to become successful students and marketable candidates for employment.”
Award finalists and their campus employers included: Kevin Yang, University Communications; Minh Chau (Zoey) Nguyen, Office of Student Volunteerism; Nabila Alam, Office of Student Volunteerism; Krystal Ogundipe, Career Center; and Gabriela Sosa, Galerstein Women’s Center.
The annual Student Employee of the Year Award program is coordinated by the Career Center and led by the student employment coordinator. Representatives from the center honored the nominees and presented them with certificates, plaques and a small scholarship at ceremonies held in their respective departments.
“UT Dallas students have a reputation of exceeding expectations in the academic setting, but our student workers go above and beyond their normal day-to-day activities for the betterment of this great University,” said Bill Howard, student employment coordinator.
“Year after year I am impressed with the quality of the University’s student workers,” said Garza. “In many cases, students are the first face that a customer sees when entering an office, and those faces are always so welcome and helpful. Without student workers, many of our departments would not operate as efficiently as they do. “
A committee of faculty and staff reviewed nominations and rated them on reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and uniqueness of contribution.
This year’s nominees included: Tyler Fincannon, Michael Tiambeng, Anna Sabochick, Srikanth Doss, Shanoya Taylor, Aaron Dotson, Kaleena Thai, Edward Bradburn, Margaret Bullock, Gladys Barbosa, Karlie Ding, Neilsen Truong and D’ric Jackson.
