June 30, 2014
Fifty UT Dallas student-athletes recently were named to the American Southwest Conference’s All-Academic Team for winter and spring sports.
More than 400 student-athletes from the league's 12 universities and colleges were honored by the ASC. Winter and spring sports include basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, softball and track and field. In addition, 44 student athletic trainers and sports information student assistants were also honored.
To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must be sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students academically during the competition season, and have attended and completed at least one academic year (two consecutive semesters) at their school. They must also have a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average as certified at the end of the semester in which the ASC sport championship is held.
Among this group, six were also named the conference’s distinguished Scholar Athletes. Those receiving that honor were Kyle Schleigh, men’s basketball; Christina Brosnahan, women’s basketball; Brandon Clounch, baseball; Jonelle Feikis, softball; Sander Kaasjager, men’s tennis; and Cindy Tiu, women’s tennis. The award recognizes student-athletes who achieve a 3.20 grade-point average or better while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team.
