Spring Graduates to Celebrate at 8 Ceremonies

May 8, 2015

Temoc and a graduate

Temoc presented Blake King, who earned a bachelors degree in child learning and development, with a bouquet of roses during Memories on the Mall last spring.

Families, friends and well-wishers will celebrate the accomplishments of more than 3,550 graduates from The University of Texas at Dallas during eight commencement ceremonies May 14-16 in the Activity Center.

Among the candidates for graduation this spring are 1,779 undergraduates, 1,685 master’s students and 89 doctoral recipients. The combined total is a 12 percent increase over the number of spring candidates for graduation a year ago.

After next week’s graduation ceremonies, the University will have conferred more than 97,300 degrees during its 45-year history.

Among the graduates will be the first cohorts from several new programs at UT Dallas, including the Startup Launch Track program of the Naveen Jindal School of Management, which teaches budding entrepreneurs how to develop and start new ventures; and the undergraduate bioengineering program of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. Health care studies graduates Asif Kabani and Marcela Mendez in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies are the first from that program to be accepted to medical school.

UT Dallas graduates

Krystal Ogundpipe celebrated with her family after graduating with a bachelors degree in speech-language pathology and audiology last spring.

The largest of UT Dallas’ seven schools, the Jindal School, has the most candidates for graduation, 1,440, during three ceremonies.

The Jonsson School has 736 candidates and two ceremonies. Next are the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences with 429; the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with 385; the School of Arts and Humanities with 265; the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences with 236; and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies with 87.

In keeping with UT Dallas tradition, students have been chosen as commencement speakers. UT Dallas President David E. Daniel also will address the graduates, their families, friends and supporters.

After each ceremony, graduates and guests will recess to the mall for “Memories on the Mall.” The event celebrates the University’s newest alumni with light refreshments, photo opportunities and a special gift for graduates.

Those unable to attend the ceremonies can watch a live video stream of the proceedings online.
