RICHARDSON,
Texas (May 2, 2001) -- The University of Texas at Dallas' 10th Annual Golf
Tournament, held April 27 at Sherrill Park Golf Course, raised more
than $15,000 for scholarships at the university, according to Robert
L. Lovitt, UTD senior vice president for business affairs and one of
the tournament’s organizers. “This
was the best year so far for the students,” Lovitt said, adding that
last year’s tournament had raised about $14,000. A
team composed of Bill Lambert, Dan Murphy, Craig Oakley, John
Schaefer, John Starly and Frank Sulzbach finished first in the overall
competition. The
highlight of the tournament came when Jess Carpenter scored a hole in
one on the 15th green.
Other golfers who received Lori
Schrader of Barnes & Noble College Bookstores won two round-trip
tickets donated by tournament sponsor American Airlines. The University of Texas at Dallas, located at the convergence of Richardson, Plano and Dallas in the heart of the complex of major multinational technology corporations known as the Telecom Corridor, enrolls approximately 6,500 undergraduate and 4,500 graduate students. The school’s freshman class traditionally stands at the forefront of Texas state universities in terms of average SAT scores. The university offers a broad assortment of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. |
