UTD Strengthens Enrollment Team By Adding
Hobba, McLane Will Help School Manage Growth
RICHARDSON, Texas (Aug. 15, 2002) - The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), one of the fastest-growing public institutions of higher learning in the nation over the past five years, is strengthening its enrollment team by adding an assistant vice president and a director of admissions.
William "Jamie" Hobba, director of admission at the University of Rochester, will join U.T. Dallas on Aug. 26 as assistant vice president for enrollment management. Anne P. McLane, former assistant registrar at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, assumed her new position as director of admissions at UTD on July 29.
"Obviously, enrollment services are a critical part of any university and an essential element in an institution's continued growth and success," said Dr. Mary E. Sias, UTD senior vice president of student affairs and external relations. "Hobba and McLane are both outstanding and accomplished professionals with extensive experience who will make our already-formidable team even stronger."
Sias said Hobba would oversee four areas - admissions, enrollment services (recruiting), financial aid and records and registration. McLane will report to Hobba, as will Barry L. Samsula, director of enrollment services; Maria Del C. Ramos, director of financial aid, and Karen M. Jarrell, director of records and registration.
"I am very excited about joining U. T. Dallas," Hobba said. "It is a university that is rapidly gaining a national name for itself in a number of academic disciplines and as a research institution. It is a school that, I believe, is poised for distinction in the coming years."
Before joining the University of Rochester in 1998, Hobba was associate dean of admission at Tulane University in New Orleans for five years. From 1984 to 1993, he served in several capacities at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, including as associate director of marketing and admission for the university's Weatherhead School of Management. Hobba holds a Master of Business Administration degree in marketing management and a B.A. degree in English, both from Case Western.
McLane said she was attracted to UTD because of "the diversity of the campus and the scope and breadth" of her new position as well as the administration's "willingness to take advanced steps with new technology from a student services perspective."
"I think the potential here is enormous," she said.
McLane, who has a Master of Science degree in education management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science degree in business from American Technological University, spent the past five years at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She previously served as registrar of Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena for nine years and in a variety of positions at Central Texas College in Killeen, including director of basic skills education and registrar for the college's Fort Hood campus.
