UTD To Host Free Concert Featuring
Bands ‘Sugarbomb’ and ‘Girl’

 

RICHARDSON, Texas (April 9, 2002) - The Office of Student Life at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will host a free concert featuring the band Sugarbomb, with opening act Girl, on Saturday, April 27, at 8 p.m.

Fort Worth’s Sugarbomb released its debut album for RCA, Bully, in September 2001. The band has toured throughout Texas and recently performed at the SXSW Music Conference and Festival in Austin.

Sugarbomb signed with independent label Rainmaker Records in 1999. Following the release of its Tastes Like Sugar CD, the band signed with RCA. “Hello,” the band’s first single from Bully, is featured in the movie Orange County and National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.

Girl is best known by its performances at several venues in Deep Ellum, including Trees, the Curtain Club and Club Clearview. The band also has performed at the Hard Rock Cafe, the Groovy Mule and participated in the 2001 North Texas New Music Festival.

The concert is free and open to the public and will take place on the UTD campus in the Activity Center. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Girl will take the stage at 8 p.m., followed by Sugarbomb at 9 p.m. Advance passes are available by calling (972) 883-6438. Passes also will be available at the door.
