UTD To Present Classical Guitar Concert
With Composer Ernesto Cordero


Ernesto CorderoRICHARDSON, Texas (March 28, 2003) -The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will present a concert of works for guitar, voice and flute by Puerto Rican composer Ernesto Cordero on Friday, April 11, at 8 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall (JO 2.604) on campus.

The concert will be performed by UTD faculty members Enric Madriguera on guitar and soprano Kathryn Evans and will include comments and a lecture by the composer. The evening's program will include Mis Primeros Versos, Eight Songs for Voice and Guitar (1967-1981), Two Sentimental Songs (1996), and Two Songs for Voice, Flute and Guitar (1973-1976), works for solo guitar including Preludios Primaverales (1967-1976), Suite Antillana (1980) and Pinceladas Nocturnas (1988), as well as Cancion and Punto Cubano for two guitars.

Tickets to the concert are $10 general admission and $5 for students. They will be on sale Mondays to Fridays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Art & Performance Office in the Visual Arts Building on the UTD campus and will be available at the door one hour prior to show time. Tickets also are available for purchase by phone during ticket office hours by calling 972-883-2982 and charging with Visa or MasterCard.

About Ernesto Cordero
Composer and guitarist Ernesto Cordero was born in 1946 in New York and raised in Puerto Rico. He has composed a large and rich catalogue of works in which he has embraced the music of the Caribbean and used its Afro-Hispanic flavor as a basis for his own language. He has written five concertos (three for guitar, one for violin and one for Puerto Rican cuarto), a variety of chamber works in which the guitar appears in diverse ensembles and numerous guitar solos, some of which have become standards. He has received important awards for composition, and his music is performed and recorded worldwide. There are more than 30 recordings of Cordero's works.
