UTD Holocaust Lecture Series To Begin March 23
RICHARDSON, Texas (March 7, 2003) - As part of the Burton C. Einspruch lecture series at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), Dr. David Patterson, Bornblum Chair of Excellence and director of Judaic Studies at the University of Memphis, will discuss issues related to the Holocaust in two separate lectures beginning Sunday, March 23.
Patterson's first lecture, entitled "The Assault on the Holy in the Holocaust," will take place at 4:30 p.m. on March 23, and the second, entitled "The Nazis, Philosophers, and the Scandal of Heidegger," will take place the following morning, March 24, at 11 a.m.
Patterson is the author of Along the Edge of Annihilation: The Collapse and Recovery of Life in the Holocaust Diary and Literature and Spirit: Essays on Bakhtin and His Contemporaries.
Both lectures, which are free and open to the public, will take place in Room 1.206 of UTD's Conference Center Auditorium. For reservations, please call (972) 883-4440 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Einspruch Lecture Series is sponsored by the Holocaust Studies Program in UTD's School of Arts and Humanities. The goal of the series is to bring world-prominent scholars to the UTD campus and to fulfill the mission of the Holocaust Studies Program by teaching the importance of greater historical and moral awareness of what happened when the Third Reich shattered European society. That tragedy, more than one-half century ago, created shock waves that still exert an impact on contemporary consciousness.
