RICHARDSON, Texas (May 6, 2003) - Dr. Da Hsuan Feng, vice president for research and graduate education at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), will be honored by the Dallas section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, May 17.

Feng will receive the Chairman's Award for "outstanding promotion of engineering awareness and research," according to Candy Robinson, the IEEE's 2003 Dallas section chair. Robinson said that the local organization wanted to recognize the "excellent communications" from Feng's office "that allow engineers in the area to keep up with what is going on at UTD." This is the first time a Chairman's Award has been given for outstanding promotion.

Feng and his staff help promote UTD among a wide variety of audiences in many geographical locations. They also seek opportunities for the university and its faculty and staff to collaborate on research projects, educational initiatives and other endeavors with other universities, corporations and governments locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The Dallas section of the IEEE is the local professional organization of electrical, electronic and computer engineers. It organizes technical, educational and scientific meetings for the approximately 6,000 local members of IEEE.
