UTD To Host Free Outdoor Music Festival Featuring
RICHARDSON, Texas (March 31, 2003) - The Office of Student Life at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will host a free outdoor music festival featuring Cowboy Mouth, along with Mest, A Tribe Called Quest and a lineup of local bands on Friday, April 11.
New Orleans rock band Cowboy Mouth tours the country and plays more than 200 shows per year. Cowboy Mouth has shared the stage with such bands as Eminem, Barenaked Ladies, Matchbox Twenty, Beck, Hootie and The Blowfish, Three Doors Down, Stone Temple Pilots and Better Than Ezra. In addition to their repertoire of studio albums and live recordings, Cowboy Mouth released a five-song EP in January.
Mest has toured with No Doubt, Lit, Black-Eyed Peas, Blink 182 and Sum 41. The band's sophomore album, "Destination Unknown," features cameos from artists Young MC and Save Ferris' Monique Powell.
A Tribe Called Quest has been hailed as one of the most innovative and critically acclaimed hip-hop groups of all time. The band's blends of jazzy, ambient samples, thoughtful lyrics, and progressive attitudes, have made them a commercial and artistic success. In addition to these nationally recognized acts, the music festival will showcase several of Dallas' best bands. Among those scheduled to perform are Chomsky, Zac Maloy and Slobberbone.
The festival is free and open to the public. It will take place on the UTD campus next to the McDermott Library. Performances by local artists will begin at 3 p.m. A Tribe Called Quest will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by Mest at 8:30 p.m. and Cowboy Mouth at 10 p.m. The full line-up of acts is listed at http://www.utdallas.edu/orgs/suaab/musicfest.html.
