Expert on the Financing of Sports Stadiums
To Speak at U. T. Dallas on Monday, Feb. 14

Dr. Rick Eckstein, an associate professor of sociology at Villanova University, will speak on the financing of sports stadiums at a workshop seminar at noon Monday, Feb. 14, in Room 3.606 of Green Hall at The University of Texas at Dallas.

The seminar is free and open to the public.

Eckstein is co-author with Kevin Delaney of the book Public Dollars, Private Stadiums: the Battle over Building Sports Stadiums, which won the 2004 Book Award from the Association of Humanist Sociology.  Eckstein and Delaney have given invited presentations in Washington, D.C., and other cities on the implications of public funding of sport stadiums.

The title of Eckstein’s speech will be “Beyond Corporate Welfare:  Building Publicly Financed Stadiums Amidst Increased Opposition.”  The Dallas Cowboys’ move from Irving to a new stadium in Arlington is likely to come up in the workshop discussion.
