Aziz Sancar, elected to the National Academy of Sciences
The UTD Department of Molecular and Cell Biology is proud to announce that one of our former students, Aziz Sancar, has just been elected to the National Academy of Sciences.
Aziz completed his Ph.D. on the photoreactivating enzyme of E. coli in 1977 in the lab of Dr. C. Stan Rupert, now Professor Emeritus.
Aziz is presently the Sarah Graham Kenan Professor of Biochemistry, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
He is married to another of our Ph.D. students, Gwen Boles Sancar, who graduated the same year and who is now also on the faculty of UNC-Chapel Hill.
