Doctoral Candidate Zhang Awarded Prestigious Scholarship

A research assistant and doctoral candidate in UTD’s Chemistry Department was recently awarded the prestigious Outstanding Overseas Chinese Student Scholarship.

Xinyu Zhang, whose research focus is synthesis and characterization of nano-structured electronic organic polymers, was among the 45 out of more than 100,000 competitors to receive China’s annual award recognizing the country’s most talented students abroad, according to the Ministry of Education in China.

Zhang, who lists volleyball, canoeing and camping among his hobbies, said he is very grateful to Nobel laureate Alan MacDiarmid and Research Associate Professor Sanjeev Manohar for accepting him into their lab and training him.

“This scholarship is a wonderful summary of my previous research work and a new starting point for my future academic career,” said Zhang, who is in his fifth year of study at UTD.
