UTD Geosciences Student Receives Award at the
2005 AAPG/SEG Expo in Houston

(Houston, TX) The AAPG/SEG National Student Expo is a unique opportunity for linking geoscience students with industry recruiters. Students present their work in form of posters which are judged by a committee of experienced industry professionals.

This year, 130 students registered for the event from nationwide universities. There were around 50 posters presented on subjects related to oil and gas exploration. Every year, awards are presented for the best three posters based on the quality of the work and the presentation.

UTD students have won poster awards in each of the last 4 years. This year, at the 2005 Expo in Houston, the poster entitled "Recording Group Correction for Seismic AVO in the Wavenumber Domain" by UTD Geosciences graduate student Ashwani Dev was judged as the one of the three best posters. The award consisted of a commemorative document and $500 cash.
