Faculty and Students Needed as Science Fair Mentors, Judges
DALLAS, Texas (Dec. 31, 2005) — Many young students in the Dallas Independent School District, from kindergartners to 12th-graders, will need help developing science projects for their school science fairs. Winners of science fairs will go on to the Dallas Regional Science Fair in Fair Park, sponsored this year by Southern Methodist University and scheduled March 25 and 26.
University faculty, lecturers, staff and students, as well as professionals working in the engineering and technology fields, are urged to help mentor and tutor these students, as well as to serve as judges. The volunteer commitment requires one to four visits or sessions between now and Feb. 10. DISD teachers will be grateful for your assistance.
Your reward will be seeing kids' eyes light up with new science knowledge and improving their understanding of the opportunities that await them in science, which may later develop into career goals.
